Even after some many months I am still heartbroken.
Coming home is not pleasant. Although I try to not focus on missing her, I find myself weeping at the drop of a hat.

Sad news and future possibilites
Regretfully I must note the passage of Katrina (the Cat of cats). After 14 years on this earthly plane she departed to an alternate realm. I was blessed to have her company for 10 years.
Coming home to an empty apartment has been heart wrenching. Yet I can not envision bringing home another cat any time soon.
On a completely different front I have submitted an application an have been interviewed for a position with HPL's cataloging department. Given the general pace of city actions I do not expect to have any news for about 2 to 3 weeks. It would be nice though as I would not have to work evenings or Saturdays and only the occasional reference shift. No increase in salary, it would be a lateral transfer.

Purlpaw's wild ride
Sine I am now a full-time employee I am commuting via metro most work days.
My trips into and back from downtown are a challenge. I
catch the bus right by my apartment and usually take that line to a transfer
station to get on the rail going downtown. It’s then a 10 to 15 minute walk (on
a good day) in the tunnels coming up just across the street from the archive.
My hours are usually 9 to 6. At 6 I walk above ground to the rail station.
Reversing my morning route.
At present the trip home is worst since it gets
dark so early during winter. Weather will also add to the delights of commuting
from time to time. In a future entry I’ll explains what happens when I work
late on Wednesdays or have Saturday duties.
The last week or so I have been so worn out with the
commute. I get a bit nervous around some of the people I travel with.
especially those by the rail station. I hear a lot of what was referred to as
‘street language’ by my family, as well as public spitting, and rather alarming
behavior. I am hoping that once I get an eye problem cleared up I might be more
comfortable driving into work. But for now I just repeat the mantra – “I have a
job, I have a job” – and turn up my radio. (FYI - too much bumping about to safely knit on the bus)
